Artist Statement

I work with textiles and wood, applying embroidery, millinery and hand-carving techniques. My work incorporates story-telling, and an idea of ‘taking a line for a walk’, often leaning into a sense of ambiguity. I am drawn to the idea of the vernacular, finding beauty in asymmetry and informality, and am driven by a quest for precise imprecision. I am fascinated by contrasts - solidity versus fragility, embellishment alongside simplicity, fluidity evolving into sharpness. Alongside this, a preoccupation with more intangible contrasts and shades of grey - language and words alongside the unsaid, the contradictions in human nature and behaviour.
