‘Contour’

The Contour series encompasses various materials, disciplines and techniques, exploring my preoccupation with solidity versus fragility. The starting point was an examination of the surface planes and angles created from folding, scrunching and partially smoothing out a piece of paper or fabric.

As I worked on this piece, it became a miniature landscape, carving deeper and deeper to create hills and valleys, and reminding me of contour lines on a map.

Taking further the idea of a piece of paper or fabric, scrunched up and partially restored, perhaps over and over, leaving permanent marks and lines and erosion at the edges.
