Artist Statement
I work with textiles and wood, applying embroidery, millinery and hand-carving techniques. My work incorporates story-telling, and an idea of ‘taking a line for a walk’, often leaning into a sense of ambiguity. I am drawn to the vernacular, finding beauty in asymmetry and informality, and driven by a quest for precise imprecision.
A fascination with contrasts is a recurring theme - solidity versus fragility, embellishment juxtaposed with simplicity, fluidity evolving into sharpness. Alongside this, a preoccupation with more intangible contrasts and shades of grey - language and words spoken or unspoken; the contradictions and complexities in human nature and behaviour.
